The 2017 TOBACCO CONTROL ACTION-PLANNING ACADEMY is designed for teams of key state tobacco control program staff and their non-government partners with an interest in breaking through barriers to progress on tobacco control interventions. The Academy will bring together selected state teams to engage in an innovative learning experience with access to top-notch faculty and facilitated action-planning sessions with guided support from subject matter experts. Specifically, the Academy aims to:

  • Create an intensive learning experience to facilitate increased knowledge and adoption of evidence-based tobacco prevention and control strategies.
  • Provide participating state teams with necessary skills and tools to strengthen their abilities for planning and implementing evidence-based tobacco prevention and control strategies.
  • Build understanding of the critical linkages between implementation of evidence-based tobacco control interventions and program sustainability.
  • Offer dedicated time and facilitation for developing state-level action plans for addressing and decreasing adult smoking prevalence rates and youth tobacco use rates.
  • Connect participants with colleagues facing similar challenges and expert faculty from across the country.
